THANKSGIVING - a topical bible study with Torrey's

THANKSGIVING is associated with PRAYER. In our Prayer and Worship, we should also Give Thanks and Praise God. Having a thankful heart will make us more contented with what we have, and also comfort us in times of distress and crisis. Giving thanks always for everything to God...that is a good habit.

Thanksgiving [N]
25 At that time Jesus said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; (Matthew 11"25( (NRSV)

27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; (Natthew 28:27) (NRSV)

11 Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. (John 6:11) (NRSV)

41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, "Father, I thank you for having heard me. (John 22"11) (NRSV)

Jesus set an example of thanksgiving in various situations.

9 And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, (Revelation 4:9) (NRSV)

11 And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 singing, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen." (Revelation 7:11-12) (NRSV)

16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God,17 saying:
“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty,
The One who is and who was and who is to come,[g]
Because You have taken Your great power and reigned. (Revelation 11:16-17) (NKJV)
Heavenly hosts also give thanks and praises to God.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) (NKJV)

Prayer and supplication should be together with thanksgiving, believing that God will grant us our prayer request.
